Keeter’s Meat Company-Tulia, TX

Keeter's Meat co

Keeter’s Meat Company is not your average processor. This fourth generation, family-owned business is a (custom) cut above the rest…no pun intended.

As I sat down with Jerry and Devin, 3rd and fourth generation owners of the business respectively, they explained to me what sets them apart: their custom cuts and emphasis on quality customer service. The two go hand-in-hand.

“We’re very customer service oriented; it’s not the way we want to cut an animal, it’s the way the customer wants it. There’s very little service in the world, and I am very keen on customer service. Come here, and you’re gonna get good service,” says Jerry.

Not only do they focus on tailored and quality customer service, but they are also generously involved in the community.

“We’ve worked with organizations in the past, trying to help the youth. This is a dying art, (butchering that is). Very few people do what we do, and we take pride in it.”

They also supply meat for numerous community events, including the festival in Nazareth for the last 35 years.

“My mom and dad started the business in 1956, and we’ve been here, family-owned and operated since.”

Keeter’s Meat Company has found great success in the past 62 years, being famous for their German sausage and beef jerky, which you can find at your local United Supermarket. But even more exciting are their future plans.

“We’re in the process of building a new USDA inspected facility. When we get the federal plant built, we’ll become the newest federal small custom processing plant in the region, including New Mexico.”

They are currently planning to break ground in September, with the building process being expected to take at least a year.

“I’ve worked on this plant design for two years and dealing with the Federal Government on both ends… it’s a big priority… there’s very few of us (custom meat processors) left. People want to know who they’re doing business with. And that’s just what this plant will provide, particularly appealing to and servicing the natural beef industry.”

“Natural beef has become a big deal, and so many of these natural producers out here are looking for a place to private label. So by going back under federal inspection, that’s going to give them the opportunity to sell interstate.”
