Revolution Farms are the local tomato producers that you don’t want to miss! With a mission to grow local produce and provide consumers with the benefits of fresh food, Quentin Clendenen (owner) tells us more.
“I guess I was always interested in greenhouses. When I’d drive by them on the highway, I’d almost break my neck looking at them. So when I saw these for sale, my wife told me to go for it. We had no idea what we were doing, but now we’re figuring it out.” Quentin says that after much research and trial and error, they figured out the business of growing fresh tomatoes.
“Our goal has always been to get people high-quality, fresh produce. It wasn’t easy getting started, but it was worth it. Our first year in business, we got hailed out, completely had to replace the roof. We had a blizzard in winter, which caused some major hardships, but I’m finally in United Supermarkets and this is my full-time gig.”
Quentin says that he worked a full-time 8-5 job and then would spend late nights in the greenhouses. “This is a difficult thing to start unless you have somebody who knows what they’re doing. George has been my mentor. This whole operation would have been a failure without him. I pretty much owe it all to him. There is no dead-set way to do this-you just figure it out! We’re constantly fighting bugs, weather…and things break all the time, so you better be a handyman on top of being a farmer!”
Be sure to follow Revolution Farms on Facebook and find their produce at your local United Supermarket, Market Street, or the Downtown Farmer’s Market.
