Give Jack A Job

Do not let your pristinely carved jack-o-lantern go to waste. Local Llano has some tips to get the very most from your pumpkins before and after carving away. You know what they say, “waste not, want not” and all that environmentally friendly jazz. Here at Local Llano, we are big fans of getting every bit of use from your local produce. Below are five ways to give Jack a purpose around the house.

Seedy Snacks

This simple pumpkin seed recipe is super easy and can be flavored any way you like! Pumpkin seeds are a great replacement for those overly processed, artificially flavored snacks and one of the best things about ‘farm to table’ shopping is that you know exactly where your food has been!

  1. Properly clean clean pulp and strings away from seeds (but don’t throw them out!)
  2. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F
  3. Toss the seeds in a bowl of melted butter (or oil) and any seasoning of your choice
  4. Spread seeds evening onto a baking sheet
  5. Bake for 45 minutes until golden brown
  6. Enjoy!

New Skincare Regimen

Look no further for your holiday glow ladies and gentlemen, your local producers have the answer! Below is a quick moisturizer that will keep your skin healthy as the temperature drops.

  1. ½ cup of pumpkin puree that you whipped up from the aforementioned pumpkin insides
  2. ½ cup of coconut oil
  3. ½ teaspoon of cinnamon
  4. Mix them all together in a bowl
  5. Store in a resealable container and refrigerate
  6. Lather up!

Pumpkin Planter

Halloween has come and gone! However your jack-o-lanterns do not have to get tossed out. Carve off the tops of your pumpkins and plant your winter greens. Your new, seasonal, eco-friendly planters will be the talk of the block!

Take It Out On Jack

Need a fun, stress relieving activity? Smash a pumpkin. That’s right, Local Llano is encouraging a little pumpkin therapy this season. Composting is a great, natural way to help out your winter garden or revitalize soil. Pumpkins are a simple way to start composting too! Cover the pumpkin pieces with leaves and some dirt and the rest is up to mother nature. Who knew organic could be so easy?

But remember, smash responsibly.

Jack And Friends

What is a garden without the sweet sounds of our chirping buddies or frolicking friends? Fill the pumpkin with birds seed and you will have your own backyard community in no time! You can also brag that your feeders have a friendly face and are biodegradable, who else can say that?
